On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Ashanti (1959) alongside North Corner Jetty in Portsmouth Dockyard during her September 1968 to April 1970 refit. The photographer is in the 4.5 inch handing room and crew shelter between 74½ and 76 stations on 1 deck looking to starboard showing the two ammunition hoists on the right and against the aft bulkhead are a cleansing locker, the helicopter pyrotechnics locker, the ammunition scuttles and an electric fire. Lockers are against the forward bulkhead and cable reels are under the deckhead. The doors to the 4.5 inch ready use magazine and the small arms locker are in the starboard bulkhead.
