On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Ashanti (1959) alongside North Corner Jetty in Portsmouth Dockyard during her September 1968 to April 1970 refit. The photographer is in the sonar instrument room between 16 and 27½ stations on 3 deck looking forward on the port side from 26 station showing Type 177 sonar cabinets B, C, and D and another five cabinets against the ship's side. Type 177 sonar cabinets I and J are on the centreline and the hatch over the hull outfit 15 (sonar type 170B) is ahead of them. A wooden bench with drawers and cupboards below, and a telephone and cupboard above are against the forward bulkhead. A vertical format negative.
