On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Ashanti (1959) alongside North Corner Jetty in Portsmouth Dockyard during her September 1968 to April 1970 refit. The photographer is in the sonar instrument room between 16 and 27½ stations on 3 deck looking aft on the port side showing sonar cabinets A, B, C, D and E against the ship's side. The hatch over the hull outfit 15 (sonar type 170B) is in the left foreground and two banks of sonar cabinets are on the centreline abaft it. At the end of these cabinets are a telephone, an automatic emergency lantern and a fire extinguisher. A vertical format negative.
