On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Nubian (1960) alongside South Railway Jetty in Portsmouth Dockyard prior to commissioning on 9 October 1962. The photographer is in the seamen's mess between 41 and 42½ stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking to port showing two triple tier bunk units against the aft bulkhead. On the right are a folding table and two covered tubular steel chairs with six kit lockers and a greatcoat locker beyond. A mirror is near the arched opening into the centreline passage.
