On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Nubian (1960) alongside South Railway Jetty in Portsmouth Dockyard prior to commissioning on 9 October 1962. The photographer is in the steering gear compartment between 85 and 95 stations on 2 deck looking forward and to port from 93 station on the starboard side showing the wire mesh cage surrounding the steering gear. The telemotor handwheel is just visible on the extreme left with a gyro repeater on the cage above it. On the right is the automatic change over switch for steering gear motor No. 2.
