On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Nubian (1960) alongside South Railway Jetty in Portsmouth Dockyard prior to commissioning on 9 October 1962. The photographer is in the asdic instrument compartment between 16 and 28 stations on 3 deck looking forward and to starboard from 23 station on the port side showing the access hatch to the hull outfit 15 (asdic type 170) with the hand winch beyond it. An electrical unit, some casings and boxes are on the access hatch. Against the forward bulkhead are a wooden cupboard labelled Type 170 C.E.O. action spares cupboard, high level cupboards labelled valve cupboard No. 4, valve cupboard No. 5 and valve cupboard No. 6, and two electronic first aid cabinets number SC No. 1 and SC No. 2. Against the starboard side of the ship are an Allen West & Co Ltd starter, a junction box, a telephone handset, a fire extinguisher and a receiver/amplifier unit.
