On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Nubian (1960) alongside South Railway Jetty in Portsmouth Dockyard prior to commissioning on 9 October 1962. The photographer is on the starboard side of the forecastle at 23 station looking forward and to port showing the twin capstan heads, chain pipe, anchor cables and the port hawse pipe. The port bollard has a wooden box cover. The Hard, Portsmouth Harbour railway station and Isle of Wight ferry pier are in the background.
