On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Tartar (1960) in Portsmouth Dockyard between November 1973 and April 1974 during a refit. The photographer is in the main communications office between 41 and 45 stations on the port side of 2 deck looking aft and to starboard from 41½ station showing the tactical ship to shore bay next to the door with Bay 2, the typist and distribution supervisor bay, next to it. On the desks are a duplicating machine, an Olivetti 82 typewriter and an Imperial 66 typewriter. A telephone switchboard, a telephone handset, two voicepipes, a suppressor box, a shelf unit and radio stateboards are against the bulkheads. On the back of the door are various notices and instructions. A fire extinguisher is on the extreme left. In the starboard aft corner is the desk of the rating in charge and a C.P.O. telegraphist is sitting at it.
