On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Tartar (1960) in Portsmouth Dockyard between November 1973 and April 1974 during a refit. The photographer is in the chart house between 43½ and 44½ stations on the port side of 01 deck looking forward and to port showing the chart table with a shelf above on which are bottles of Pelikan marker ink, a ship's crest of the Tartar and a bottle of liquid gum. A Navaid is against the forward bulkhead and a small visual display unit is on a shelf in the port forward corner. Against the port bulkhead are an echo sounder amplifier, a sound recording equipment loudspeaker and a voicepipe to the navigating officer's cabin.
