On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Tartar (1960) in Portsmouth Dockyard between November 1973 and April 1974 during a refit. The photographer is in the stabiliser compartment between 53 and 56 stations on 4 deck looking aft and to port from the centreline at 53½ station showing the stripping pump on the right. The port stabiliser piston rod housing, hexagonal tilting shaft, tilting cylinders and fin box are on the left. Three wooden crates are on the deck and a fire extinguisher is fixed to a support pillar. A vertical format negative.
