On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Tartar (1960) in Portsmouth Dockyard between November 1973 and April 1974 during a refit. The photographer is in the junior rates and marines mess between 50 and 56 stations on 3 deck looking aft and to port from the centreline at 54½ station showing a corner of the recreation area with a settee bench in the corner. A small cupboard is built in to the corner above the settee bench. A coffee table and a tubular steel chair are in the foreground. A framed painting of a small cannon on a wheeled carriage is on the bulkhead. The recreation area is curtained off from the rest of the mess. A vertical format negative.
