On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Tartar (1960) in Portsmouth Dockyard between November 1973 and April 1974 during a refit. The photographer is in the chief petty officer's mess between 67 and 73 stations on 2 deck looking aft and slightly to starboard and from behind the bar counter at 69½ station to starboard of the centreline showing a settee bench with a framed painting of a countryside scene above it against the starboard bulkhead. A coffee table is in front of the settee. A cushioned seat is round one of the centreline supporting pillars on the right. Against the aft bulkhead is an air conditioning unit and a hinged table with an electric kettle on it. In the lobby in the background are a mirror, a letter rack, a notice board, a kit locker, an automatic emergency lantern and the watertight door to the petty officers' mess.
