On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Tartar (1960) in Portsmouth Dockyard presumably in 1974 after refit. The photographer is in the crew's galley and preparation space between 45 and 50 stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking to starboard from 49 station showing the cooking area. Against the aft bulkhead are two roasting ovens, two steaming ovens and three boiling coppers. On the left are a a deep fryer, a shallow fryer and a dresser incorporating a condenser unit. On the dresser is a large tin opener and standing next to the dresser is a senior rating holding a coat. A stainless steel dresser with shelves under is in the centre with dishes and trays of food on it. A man in a white coat is next to it holding documents in his right hand the the photographer's number board in his left. In the background against the ship's side are a sink unit, preparation bench, shelves, an automatic emergency lantern and an ice cream machine.
