The type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Tartar (1960) in Portsmouth Dockyard between November 1973 and April 1974 during a refit. The photographer is on the quayside looking forward and to starboard showing the port midships of the ship from the mast at 50 station aft to the quartermaster's lobby at 67 station. The numeral 1 on the forefunnel indicates that the ship is a unit of the First Frigate Squadron. On the port side of 01 deck is the close range blind fire director for the port GWS 21 Seacat missile launcher with the stowage racks for petrol tanks at the deck edge. Hooded flight deck floodlights are on either side of the jalousie on the after funnel. Three ratings are standing at the desk outside the quartermaster's lobby.
