On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Tartar (1960) in Portsmouth Dockyard between November 1973 and April 1974 during a refit. The photographer is in the wardroom between 50 and 56 stations on the port side of 1 deck looking aft and to starboard from 52 station showing a settee bench, an electric fire, a cupboard and a framed map against the aft bulkhead. The map is a reproduction of "A Newe Mape of Tartary augmented by John Speede...1626" which was in the first world atlas published in London in 1651. The settee bench continues round against the starboard bulkhead and a television set is above it in the corner. At the end of the settee bench are a magazine rack and an automatic emergency lantern. A glass fronted book and trophy case is next to the door, partly hidden by a curtain. Four coffee tables and four armchairs are in the foreground.
