The type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Tartar (1960) alongside a jetty in Portsmouth Dockyard between November 1973 and April 1974 during a refit. The photographer is on the quayside looking to starboard showing the port side of the ship from the mainmast to the after funnel. The 25 feet motor cutter is in its davits and the RNSA 14 feet sailing dinghy is between the davits on its deck cradle. Both boats are covered. The number 1 on the forefunnel indicates service with the 1st Frigate Squadron.
