A scene on the Dutch coast with fisherman beaching their boats by a sea wall, and anchored ships in the distance
Medium includes grey wash. This composition of Dutch weyschuits coming ashore near a groyne is based on a known one in oil of van de Velde the Younger and copied by Charles Brooking. The partly cropped inscription at the top remains to be decyphered and the monogram signature , apparently 'JB' at bottom centre also needs to be explained: the latter suggests the attribution to Gore may be wrong.
