On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Tartar (1960) in Portsmouth Dockyard between November 1973 and April 1974 during a refit. The photographer is in the conversion machinery room between 45 and 48 stations on the starboard side of 4 deck looking forward and to port from 47½ station showing a 1KVA motor generator in the foreground with an amplidyne forward of it and two large motor generators to port with a wooden crate between them. Against the forward bulkhead are a control board and a contactor panel. Against the port bulkhead are four voltage regulators, a starter panel and two excitation units. Large wandering lights and coils of cable are hanging under the deckhead.
