On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Tartar (1960) in Portsmouth Dockyard between November 1973 and April 1974 during a refit. The photographer is in the conversion machinery room between 45 and 48 stations on the starboard side of 4 deck looking forward and to starboard from 47½ station showing two large motor generators with wooden crates between them and a 1KVA motor generator to starboard. Against the forward bulkhead are a control board and a contactor panel. Large wandering lights and coils of cable are hanging under the deckhead. Against the ship's side are two searchlight rectifiers, two 5KW 24V rectifiers and a 25KW 220V rectifier. In the left foreground is another motor generator.
