On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Tartar (1960) in Portsmouth Dockyard between November 1973 and April 1974 during a refit. The photographer is in the conversion machinery room between 45 and 48 stations on the starboard side of 4 deck looking aft and to starboard from 45½ station showing two large motor generators with wooden crates between them. Large wandering lights and coils of cable are hanging under the deckhead. Against the ship's side are two 5KW 24V rectifiers, two 25KW 220V rectifiers and two axial flow fans in ventilation trunking. Against the aft bulkhead are two starters, two transformers, an auto change over switch and fuse panels. Against the port bulkhead are two voltage regulators, a combined starter and excitation unit, a choke unit and a motor generator.
