The photographer is looking to starboard from 56¼ station on the port side of 1 deck showing the unique Fran Kee protective decking and the gas bottle stowage against the boiler uptakes and downtakes bulkhead. The base of the forward davit of the 27 feet motor whaler is in the background. The ship is berthed port side to the jetty. In the Portsmouth Dockyard photographer's list this negative is said to be taken on the "Fran Kee" deck which is the timber clad waist of the ship. A vertical format colour negative.
