On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Tartar (1960) alongside Fountain Lake Jetty in No. 3 Basin in Portsmouth Dockyard between November 1973 and April 1974 during a refit. The photographer is looking aft from the port bridge wing showing the 3 inch rocket flare launcher at 46½ station on 01 deck. The number 1 on the forefunnel indicates her service with the First Frigate Squadron. She is berthed starboard side to the jetty and an armament store carrier, either Kinterbury (1942) or Throsk (1943), is astern of her. Alongside the hammerhead crane jetty on the right is the guided missile destroyer Fife (1964) with scaffolding round her masts while undergoing a refit. A vertical format negative.
