The former British Power Boat Co Ltd boatyard at Hythe, Hampshire
The former boatyard of the British Power Boat Co. Ltd. The company was formed 30 September 1927 to use R Kemp's Hythe Boatyard which Hubert-Scott Paine had purchased in the same year. The British Power Boat Company became a limited liability company in June 1938 and was liquidated in 1947. In 1989 this site was occupied by Dreamland Electric Blanket Company. The photographer is looking along the frontage of two large corrugated iron clad buildings with large sliding doors, one of which is open. Steel racking units, wire storage cages and wooden pallets loaded with plastic crates are outside the buildings. A single storey brick building under a pitched corrugated asbestos roof and with a large roller shutter door is facing the camera. This is building 13C and a sign on this building reads: 'Will all drivers please report to stores office before unloading'. A vertical format negative.
