The Swansea pilot boats Faith [S4] and Neptune [S7] dried out at Swansea
A starboard bow view of the schooner-rigged Swansea pilot boats Faith [S4] and Neptune [S7] dried out at Swansea alongside the stone quay wall. The photograph was taken from an elevated position looking down on the boats. Their bowsprits have been run inboard and the booms are on the deck. The short gaffs have been stowed under cover.
In a letter dated 3 November 1846 to William Fox Talbot, Calvert Jones lists a number of negatives he is sending to him, including negative number 123 'Swansea Pilot boats' [BL, LA46-123]. Jones had arrived back in England from his European trip in early June 1846 to sort out the afffairs of his dead uncle.
