The Battle of the Glorious First of June, 1794; Lord Howe penetrating the French line to windward on the same tack
Inscribed by the artist 'Lord Howe penetrating the line to windward on same tack'. This is probably not a drawing done on the spot, although Pocock had been present at the battle as an observer in the frigate 'Pegasus'. The pencil technique is more consistent with that of his other studio sketches held in the Museum. Howe's 'Queen Charlotte', in port-quarter view on the left with his flag at the main, appears to have passed through the French line (where another British ship is following in bow view), then tacked round to engage them with her starboard broadside.
