Port quarter view of the barque Cobre (1844) dried out at Swansea.

A whole plate size salted paper print. This is a light version while P64CAL is a darker exposure version of calotype negative P8CAL A port quarter view of the three-masted barque Cobre (1844) dried out alongside a quay in the River Tawe, Swansea. The lower yards of the fore and main mast have been scandalized (set at an acute angle to the deck) and the ship has a slight list to port.

Reverse has been annotated in pencil by Admiral Ballard in 1934: 'Swansea'.

Calvert Jones lists two photographs of the Cobra in a letter dated 3 November 1846 to WHF Talbot [BL, LA46/123]. The list states: 144 “Cobre” aground. pier' and '145. Bow view of Cobre and schooner'. Jones had arrived back in England from his European trip in early June 1846 to sort out the afffairs of his dead uncle.
