The Battle of the Nile, 1 August 1798: stern view of the anchored French fleet, with the British ships coming in to attack
This pencil drawing looks north-west between the engaged fleets from astern, with their heads already engaged in the distance and some of Nelson's main body of ships closing from the right. The French flagship, 'L'Orient', of Admiral Brueys D'Aigalliers is clearly shown as the last visible ship in the centre of the French line before smoke obscures the rest.
