Sample napkin with the monogram of Mecca Café

A sample napkin with the monogram of the Mecca Cafés. There is a decorative border around the edge of the napkin by WE & S Ltd at Glenbank. Attached to the napkin is a brown paper ticket which gives details of the napkin's manufacture. The edges of the napkin are slightly frayed and there are various brown stains on the napkin. Mecca ran the original National Maritime Museum café, which is now the site of the Sammy Ofer Wing. Mecca also provided the catering (a two-shilling tea) for the official opening of the Museum on 27 April 1937. It seems there was talk of opting for cheaper catering, but the director, Geoffrey Callender, insisted on the two-shilling offer, noting 'the ladies will criticise the tea if it is not properly done'.
