Duckworth's action at San Domingo, 6 February 1806
This is a near-final compositional sketch for the large oil painting (NMM BHC0571) of Sir John Thomas Duckworth's victory off San Domingo, which formed a somewhat overlooked postscript to Trafalgar in destroying French naval power in the West Indies. Duckworth's 'Superb' engages the French flagship 'Imperial' in the centre. Pocock has coloured in significant flags with colour. The inscription identifying the 'Superb' is by a later hand.
