A port near broadside view of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary oiler Tide Austral (1954) under way in ballast.
A port near broadside view, taken from just ahead of the beam, of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary oiler Surf Pioneer (1951) under way in ballast. Her hull is weather-beaten. The precise location and date are unknown but a postcard of this image has been seen postmarked 13 March 1957. This ship was built for the Commonwealth of Australia (Department of the Navy) but was loaned to the Royal Fleet Auxiliary until she was needed on the Australia Station. The loan expired 15 August 1962 and she was renamed HMAS Supply one month later. A copy negative of a T Rayner photographic print.
