The Hawker Siddeley Buccaneer S.2 aircraft serialled XV359 (100/E) awaiting launching from the waist catapult on board the aircraft carrier Eagle (1946) in the North Sea. The photographer is on the island superstructure looking to port. The mirror deck landing sight is behind the aircraft's tail. The aircraft first flew 16 January 1968 and was struck off charge in December 1978. In the background is the Eagle's SAR Flight Wessex XS888 (147/E).
