On board the boom defence vessel Barbain (1940) working off Sembawang, Singapore. The photographer is looking forward and slightly to starboard from the port side abreast the mast showing four lengths of heavy duty chain laid out on deck having been hauled up over the round-down for maintenance. Two of the crew are working on one of the chains while three other men and two officers are on the bow horns watching proceedings. Negatives numbers P99801 to P99847 inclusive were taken on the same occasion.
