On board the boom defence vessel Barbain (1940) working off Sembawang, Singapore. The photographer is looking forward from the starboard side of the upper side abreast the 10 ton winch room showing three lengths of heavy mooring chain being hauled aboard for maintenance. Five crew members are involved in the hauling operation and they are being watched by two other crew members and two officers sitting on the bow horns. Negatives numbers P99801 to P99847 inclusive were taken on the same occasion.
