On board the boom defence vessel Barbain (1940) working off Sembawang, Singapore. The photographer is looking forward on the foredeck showing six crew members working on a large steel shackle holding two separate links of a mooring chain. The shackle pin has been removed and the men are using steel bars and a rope to reposition the shackle. The links of a large mooring chain are on the left, hanging down over the bow round-down. Negatives numbers P99801 to P99847 inclusive were taken on the same occasion.
