On board the boom defence vessel Barbain (1940) working off Sembawang, Singapore. The photographer is looking forward and to port on the foredeck showing five crew members using steel bars and ropes to position a large chain link onto a large shackle which has the pin removed. The links of a large mooring chain are hanging down over the bow round-down and two officers are viewing proceedings from the safety of the port horn. Negatives numbers P99801 to P99847 inclusive were taken on the same occasion.
