On board the boom defence vessel Barbain (1940) working off Sembawang, Singapore. The photographer is looking forward and to port on the foredeck showing four crew members using steel bars and ropes to hold a large chain link onto a large shackle while a fifth man is using a sledge hammer to force the shackle pin into position. Two officers are viewing proceedings from the safety of the port horn. Negatives numbers P99801 to P99847 inclusive were taken on the same occasion.
