The photographer is the balloon hangar looking aft at one of the crew standing by the transom releasing a weather reporting balloon which has a cruciform fitting hanging below it. Two other crew are watching the evolution. Inside the hangar is a domed shield to protect inflated balloons from projections under the hangar deckhead. A vertical format negative.
