On board the ocean weather ship Weather Reporter (1944) on station in the North Atlantic. The photographer is the balloon hangar looking aft at one of the crew standing by the transom releasing a weather reporting balloon which has a cruciform fitting hanging below it. Two other crew are watching the evolution. Inside the hangar is a domed shield to protect inflated balloons from projections under the hangar deckhead. A vertical format negative.
