A slightly distant port near broadside view, taken from abaft the beam, of the Royal Navy frigates Lowestoft (1960) and Berwick (1959) steaming in line abreast in the Atlantic, west of Gibraltar. They are units of the 5th Frigate Squadron and their pendant numbers are F103 and F115. The Berwick is the Squadron leader and the photographer is on board the frigate Falmouth (1959) looking to starboard from the starboard side of the bridge roof while the ships are participating in the NATO exercise Riptide III. A chemical stain is on the negative.
