View of Greenwich Hospital from off Millwall
A panoramic pencil and watercolour sketch study from the west, off Millwall, with the point of the Isle of Dogs visible on the left, the Hospital, and the buildings of the Greenwich waterfront visible beyond shipping on the right. The Trafalgar Tavern appears to be included east of the Hospital, which suggests a date after 1837 but before the tenement area around Fisher Lane (or Fisher's Alley) behind the pier was cleared in the early 1840s. The drawing is inscribed 'Greenwich Hospital' lower right, with Duncan's studio stamp impressed alongside in red.
