On board the Royal Navy coastal minesweeper Thames (1953) at Den Helder, the Netherlands. The photographer is on the port side amidships looking forward, to starboard and up showing the funnel and the foremast. The 10 on the funnel shows she is a unit of the 10th Mine Counter Measures Squadron whose ships were mainly crewed by Royal Naval Reserve personnel. She is leaving Den Helder to return to Southampton after taking part with other Ton class units in the joint RN/RNR live minesweeping exercise Cableway in Dutch coastal waters.
