The photographer is looking aft and slightly to starboard from the port side at the base of the lattice mast abaft the bridge. The Thames is on passage from Den Helder to Southampton after taking part with other Ton class units in the joint RN/RNR live minesweeping exercise Cableway in Dutch coastal waters.
