Ship's lifeboats from the Orient Line cruise ship Orcades (1937) in the water for racing at Korcula, Yugoslavia.
Ship's lifeboats from the Orient Line cruise ship Orcades (1937) in the water for racing at Korcula, Yugoslavia. The photographer is looking from the promenade deck on the starboard side aft showing two ten-oared lifeboats being taken under tow of a motor lifeboat heading for the start from the accommodation ladder. The racing boats are using eight oars double banked and all oars are tossed. The boats have a mixed crew of seamen in uniform at the bow and stern of each boat and the oars people are passengers wearing a variety of paper hats. The motor boat has one boat fully under tow and the second boat is about to be taken under way.
