Ship's lifeboats from the Orient Line cruise ship Orcades (1937) in the water for racing at Korcula, Yugoslavia. The photographer is looking down from the promenade deck on the starboard side aft showing two ten-oared lifeboats and a motor lifeboat alongside the accommodation ladder preparing for a race. The motor lifeboat is outboard and her crew are watching the crew of one of the racing boats taking their positions. A photographer with a large plate camera is in the motor lifeboat. The crew of the racing boat is a mix of passengers and crew members. The three crew members are in uniform and will be in the bow and at the tiller. The sixteen passengers are wearing a mix of paper hats and will be using eight oars double banked.
