A port near broadside view, taken from ahead of the beam, of the Orient Line cruise ship Orcades (1937) at anchor in an unknown location. She is flying the Blue Peter from the port yardarm on the foremast. Her starboard anchor is deployed and an accommodation ladder is rigged at the aft shell door. One of the ship's boats is approaching the ladder from astern. Lifeboat number 16 is missing from its falls. There are stains on the negative near the ship's stern, funnel and bow.
