On board the Royal Navy riverine gunboat Skull (1963) (former LCA) during a patrol near Kuching, Sarawak. The photographer is on the starboard side aft looking forward showing the cabin roof and the boat's lifering fixed to a makeshift foremast. The gunboat is crewed by men from Naval Party Kilo and one of the crew is sitting on the cabin roof keeping a watchful eye on a local boat which is being searched close alongside. The native boat is carrying rolls of wire mesh and passengers. This was during the Indonesian confrontation which ran from 20 January 1963 to 11 August 1966.
