Royal Navy riverine gunboats lying alongside the jetty at their base at Kuching, Sarawak
Two Royal Navy riverine gunboats alongside the jetty at their base at Kuching, Sarawak. The photographer is on the jetty looking down showing, nearest the jetty, a converted landing craft with the accommodation cabin amidships and a canopy over the wheel aft. Outboard of the former landing craft is a converted naval stores tender and on her canopy is RN9. There were 12 of these boats, the majority being converted landing craft or naval stores tenders from Singapore Navy Yard, and they were manned by members of Naval Party Kilo. On the left is Sub-Lieutenant Christopher Dake, RN, the 1st Lieutenant and Executive Officer of Naval Party Kilo. This was during the Indonesian confrontation which ran from 20 January 1963 to 11 August 1966.
