On board the United States Navy guided missile destroyer Claude V Ricketts (1960) while under way in mid Atlantic. The photographer is looking forward from the bridge showing the forward 5 inch 56 calibre dual purpose gun turret and the bow. Her crew consisted of 10 officers and 164 crew from the US Navy with the rest of the complement being from West Germany, Italy, Greece, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Turkey as a mixed manning experiment. The ship is following astern of the United States Navy aircraft carrier Saratoga (1955) which is taking on fuel from an oiler alongside her starboard beam.
