The photographer is on 1 deck of the destroyer amidships looking forward and to port showing the forward part of the hull of the carrier. The forward elevator is at hangar deck level. In the foreground the crewmen of the destroyer are securing the fuel hose. They are wearing standard working rig with lifejackets. The crew of the destroyer consisted of 10 officers and 164 crew from the US Navy with the rest of the complement being from West Germany, Italy, Greece, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Turkey as a mixed manning experiment.
