On board the United States Navy guided missile destroyer Claude V Ricketts (1960) during a replenishment serial with the aircraft carrier Saratoga (1955) while under way in mid Atlantic. The photographer is on the port side of 1 deck amidships looking forward showing crewmen of the destroyer standing by the connected fuel hose. They are wearing standard working rig with lifejackets. The boat in the port davits has the serial number C5796 painted on it. The crew of the destroyer consisted of 10 officers and 164 crew from the US Navy with the rest of the complement being from West Germany, Italy, Greece, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Turkey as a mixed manning experiment.
