The Tartar is a unit of the 8th Frigate Squadron (West Indies). The photographer is on the starboard side of the forecastle on 1 deck looking to port from just abaft the 4.5 inch gun showing the rear of the gun mount. The Royal Navy type 41 frigate Lynx (1955) of the 7th Frigate Squadron (South Atlantic) is steaming parallel to the Tartar (1960) and is seen from off her starboard broadside. Her pendant number is F27.
